Dimitris Regginos has been active performing worldwide since 1996, having given more than 300 concerts in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Spain, France and Japan. He is the first prize winner of the prestigious International Guitar Competitions of Volos, Greece (1990), Kutna Hora, Chech Republic (1996) and Tokyo, Japan (1997). He also won 2nd prize in Tokyo, Japan (1996), and 3rd prizes in Krakow, Poland (1991) and “A. Augustine memorial” Bath, UK (1997), having been a finalist in numerous other international competitions.
As a soloist Mr Regginos has appeared with orchestras such as the Russia State Academic Chamber Orchestra (1998), the Divertissement Chamber Orchestra (St. Petersburg, 2003), the Ural Symphony Orchestra (2003), the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (1997, 2001, 2006) Chamber-Symphonic Orchestra of the Ukranian Armed Forces (2007).
Dimitris Regginos is frequently invited to perform and give masterclasses in International Guitar Festivals, among others in Volos, Veroia, Belgrade, Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Sofia, Plovdiv, Vilnius, Kiev, Tokyo and Osaka. Apart from solo recitals, chamber music making forms an important part of his concert activities.
His particularly wide-ranging solo and concert repertoire ranges from Dowland and Bach to Leo Brower and contemporary composers. His collaboration with contemporary Cypriot composers for premiering their works has yielded in numerous occasions, works that were composed especially for him. Mr Regginos has released four CD recordings: “Chamber music with guitar” – works by Cypriot composer Kemal Belevi, “Recital” – works for solo guitar, “Kypriaka Erotika” – works for solo guitar by Cypriot composer Faidros Kavallaris and “Tradition and Music” with violinist Menelaos Menelaou.
Dimitris Regginos began guitar studies under Christos Savvopoulos at the age of 14 and within three years, upon obtaining the Licentiate of the ABRSM, he gave his first solo recital. He continued his music studies at the Gnessin’s Russian Academy of Music, Moscow under Alexander Frauchi graduating in 1994 with a Master of Fine Arts. During his studies he attended numerous masterclasses by prominent guitarists such as Costas Kotsiolis, Evangelos Assimakopoulos, Tadashi Sasaki, Leo Brower and many others.
Dimitris Regginos´s commitment to providing young guitarists with further opportunities and expanding the development of classical guitar in Cyprus, has led him to organize numerous Guitar Festivals. Since 2001, being the President of the European Guitar Teachers Association, he has established the annual EGTA-Cyprus International Guitar Festival and Competition for Young Guitarists. He was also the Artistic Director of the 1st Paphos International Guitar Festival (1999) and the 1st Cyprus International Guitar Festival (2000).
At the same time, Mr Regginos is music teacher in secondary education public schools, and guitar pedagogue at the Hellenic College of Music and at ARTE Music Academy in Nicosia, being the Head of its Guitar department since 2002. He is the founder of the Cyprus Federation of Private Music Teachers.
